Background and Bio
Jay Edwards was raised in Nelsonville, Ohio, earning a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from nearby Ohio University. He worked in medical sales and real estate before running for office in 2016. Edwards served in the state legislature as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 2017 until 2025. In that role, he served as the House Finance Committee Chair and as Majority Whip. Edwards is a licensed realtor and property investor and lives in Nelsonville with his partner, Jayde, and their three children.
Policy Issue Summaries
  • Management of State Funds: His campaign has called for putting state funds in smaller community credit unions in addition to the current process of utilizing bank deposits. Edwards’s public statements and campaign materials have highlighted his experience in financial management while serving as the former Chair of the Ohio House Finance Committee. 
  • Unclaimed Funds Account: Edwards opposed the use of the state’s unclaimed funds account to support the construction of a new Cleveland Browns football stadium, but has not released any additional proposals or statements about how he would act as a steward of the Unclaimed Funds Account.
